HELP ｜ Legal Notice

Database of digitized correspondence left by illuminators who worked actively from the beginning of the 17th century to the middle of the 19th century (For example, Voltaire, Rousseau, Newton and Kant). This database was provided by the project of Oxford University Press and Oxford University Bodleian Library. Correspondence’s counterpart is a family member, a friend, a bank, a bookstore, a publisher, a patron, etc. Through descriptions expressing illuminator’s voice, time background, relationships and private lives, “Electronic Enlightenment” provides new finding place of historical research, research of thought and research of characters.

House of Commons Parliamentary Papers searches Parliamentary materials as important materials studying U.K. and neighboring countries.
Rikkyo University has contract for two databases written below.
(1)Nineteenth / Twentieth Century House of Commons Parliamentary Papers : It contains the full texts of House of Commons Parliamentary Papers including charts, maps, etc…in the 19th-20th century (1801-2005).
(2)Eighteenth Century House of Commons Parliamentary Papers : It provides about 1 million pages of all kinds of documents in the period called “Long” 18th century (1660-1834).

This portal site provides information of Japanese culture researches. For example, the database of rare books and materials about ghost (Yo-kai) picture scrolls, old maps, tanka/haiku and the research support database. Some databases require application for use.

Database of “国史大辞典(Kokushi Daijiten)” (Total 15 volumes, total 17 books), the biggest Japanese historical encyclopedia published by “吉川弘文館(Yoshikawa kobunkan) in between 1979 and 1997. Besides about 54000 entry words of the book version, about 4000 crossheads can be searched.

MLA International Bibliography is the secondary information database on linguistics, literature and folklore produced by Modern Language Association. It contains not only more than 4400 journals but information of books, theses, etc. “PMLA: Publications of Modern Language Association of America” contains from 1880’s. When the link “Find this article in full text from JSTOR” is displayed , the articles can be viewed in full text by JSTOR.

User’s Guide (in Japanese)

This is the official journal database of  “National Geographic Society” (nonprofit organization)  which was established for the purpose of the spread of geography. It is well-known that though it was an academic journal, many pictures and photos were used and especially color photos were carried earlier than any journals.

Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Literature is very useful online reference for literary researches. Searches and browses the Encyclopedia of Twentieth – Century Fiction, the Encyclopedia of the Novel and the Encyclopedia of Literary and Cultural Theory all at once. This database contains more than 900 articles (300-7000 words) written by specialists. There is a cross-reference function in the article and the end of the article.It provides not only the ordinary Advanced Search functions but also the function searching related articles by themes, fields, characters periods.
